BENEFITS AND FEATURES OF PLASTIC PIPES

Thermoplastics

Today in this Llaberia Group’s blog article we want to tell you about the benefits and features of plastic pipes. The first thing to know is that plastic is divided into two families.

Thermoplastic

Thermoplastic plastic subjected to relatively high temperatures becomes deformable or flexible, melts when heated and hardens in a glass transition state when sufficiently cooled. Examples of this type of plastic are PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PS (polystyrene).

Thermosetting

On the other hand, thermosetting plastic initially appears as a white liquid or solid material that becomes rigid when heated. Examples of this plastic are vulcanized rubber, fiberglass, polyester resin or silicone resin.

One of the greatest benefits of thermoplastic plastic is that we can reprocess it 100% and reuse it as many times as we want within its useful life.

Plastic pipes are usually made of polyethylene (PE) if they transport water. The plastic pipes are suitable for the conduction of drinking water since its great feature is that it does not transmit any taste, odor or color.

According to UNE-EN 12201, we can use PE 40, PE 80 and PE 100.

As main advantages we have:

  • Light weight
  • Lower density
  • No deformation
  • No roughness
  • Completely smooth exterior and interior of the tube
  • No corrosion
  • 100 years of useful life in the best case scenario
  • Good flexibility

PVC pipes are the most used in the construction industry; hydraulic installations, in houses or buildings.

Their easy installation and light weight make their installation a blink of an eye. Besides, as they are completely light, it will be very easy to cut them to adapt them wherever we want.

If to all these benefits and features of plastic pipes we add that they have an excellent resistance to any type of liquids and are resistant to corrosion, why shouldn’t they be the preferred choice of professional plumbers?
