Waterproofing rafts

Gardening and Agriculture

Expanding the topic of last week’s entry as promised,in this post we will delve into one of the most frequent applications, and that we are specialists, of PE geomembranes: waterproofing rafts.

The importance of the existence of irrigation rafts is increasing. In the agricultural and industrial sector there are many companies that use them to store water and have greater reserves of this vital resource. In many cases it is made even naturally thanks to rainwater.

Ensuring the sealing of these embalming will make the whole area around it not leaks or leaks or depletes.

When you start with the construction of a raft one of the factors to take into account more is how to do a good water management, since we do not want under any circumstances that there are losses, therefore, the installation of the system waterproofing has to be done in the most optimal way. Based on this Llaberia Group we installed Polyethylene geomembranes (PE) thanks to its numerous advantages as we saw in the last post.

Waterproofing of water reservoirs

The essential thing when installing such a system is: use the best materials, be in optimal condition complying with the sealing, have highly qualified operators and personnel and do the installation with total precision. These points are essential to ensure that there is no decrease in waterproofness in the future.

But there is not a single type of waterproofing system for water rafts, but we find different modalities that we can install according to the needs of the customer, the sector, type of installation and functionality that is required. A common feature among all is to avoid water filtration. A¡Then,we see the different types:

  • Waterproofing of drinking water rafts
As the water is going to be to be consumed you have to use those materials that are able to properly resist climate changes and not use waterproofing that are toxic and can contaminate drinking water.
  • Waterproofing of irrigation rafts
Increasingly, these types of systems are being made for crop irrigation. In most cases it is done on surfaces where they hardly have water available for agricultural purposes only.

Waterproofing materials that are thong for a long lifespan and resistant to leakage are used for good use.

  • Waterproofing artificial lakes
Artificial lakes are increasingly implemented building blocks in which it is very important to make a strict waterproofing and of high technical complexity. In the case of ornamental ponds, almost exactly the same situation occurs as in lakes.

To carry out such installations the best option, and the one used by Llaberia Group,is waterproofing through high density polyethylene sheets, since it is the most prepared material and offers the most benefits to waterproofing.

Main advantages of waterproofing a raft

Thanks to the implementation of this system some of the main advantages that we will get are:

  • More secure water supply
  • Greater water flow control
  • Preserving water in areas where the resource is scarcer
  • Thanks to high density PE geomembranes you get more water storage in the smallest space possible.
  • No other material is required to cover the raft and protect it
  • You manage to save water, as you use less land and therefore there will be less water loss due to evaporation.
