ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HDPE PIPES

Todo lo necesario sobre las tuberías de hdpe
Industrial Applications

Do you know all you need to know about HDPE pipes? Before we start with the process of welding HDPE pipes or high density polyethylene pipes, let’s get into the subject. What are high density polyethylene or HDPE pipes?

A high density polyethylene pipe is a pipe made of high density polyethylene resin with high mechanical resistance. It is used for handling non-pressurized fluids due to its high hydraulic capacity. In other words, they are used in physically demanding environments to transport everything from water to gas.

These pipes are very durable and usually have a lot of traffic of what is being transported.

HDPE pipes can be joined by more than one process:

  • Butt weld hot melt
  • Socket welding
  • Electrofusion

Llaberia Group tricks

Now, without further ado, let’s start with the tricks that Llaberia Group has up its sleeve to weld high density polyethylene pipes.

  1. Preheat the welding plate up to 210ºC.
  2. Check that both the material and the machinery are in good condition.
  3. Clean and align the two faces of the pipe for a correct welding without errors.
  4. DO NOT use the same welding table for all your machinery.
  5. Do not forget that there is drag pressure and also welding pressure.
  6. Respect the welding tables.
  7. Do not leave the pipe in contact with the plate for more than two minutes.

On the other hand, if your pipe has broken and you need to weld it to repair it, we recommend the following steps:

  • Cut the pipe eliminating the damaged part
  • Pass a coupler to one of the sides of the cut pipe.
  • Join the parts with the coupler
  • Make the weld

You may now be wondering the difference between thermofusion welding and electrofusion welding, so in Llaberia Group we are looking forward to telling you 😊

Electrofusion is a system very similar to hot melt, with some differences. The main one is that it uses a coupling for welding. So this fusion uses the pipe plus a fitting to make the fusion.
