Why use a multilayer tube in your heating system?

Industrial Applications

After several technological researches regarding the installation of heating systems, there is a debate on what is better, using metal pipes or pipes made of thermoplastics. In Llaberia Group we bet for the multilayer tube.

What is a multilayer tube?

In previous occasions we have talked about the multilayer tube type and its general features. It is an integrated system of cross-linked polyethylene pipes containing an aluminum core. This type of pipe is applicable for the supply of hot and cold water in plumbing, heating and underfloor heating installations.

At Llaberia, we commercialize and install the multilayer system of Blansol, Rayper, under the name Multipex and the TECE multilayer system, which is addressed to private customers, because of the simplicity of its implementation.

Multipex pipe

Let’s start with Blansol’s Multipex pipe. The inner and outer layer of this pipe is made of cross-linked polyethylene, also called PEX. This material has brought about many improvements over the non-cross-linked multilayer tube. The most significant advantages are:

  • No more risk of leakage: it is designed to withstand temperatures up to 95°C and 10 bar pressures. Thus, Multipex can withstand extreme working conditions, and, together with the use of Multipex fittings, its effectiveness is further increased.
  • Increased joint tightness: thanks to the Multipex multilayer pipe layers, Multipex, based on cross-linked polyethylene, guarantees that even in extreme temperatures the joint will be effective.

Why choose Multipex tubes instead of another multilayer tube?

After the information provided, why should we choose Multipex tubes over other multilayer ultrasonically butt-welded pipes?

The Multipex tube achieves such resistance to bending and pressure thanks to the welded aluminum layer it contains inside. In this weld, the ends of the aluminum foil are fused together, thus significantly increasing the weld line.

Nowadays, we can find other multilayer pipe options on the market in which, unlike Multipex, the aluminum layer is overlapped and ultrasonically welded. This welding is based on a bond, but the aluminum is not actually melted. It will result in a very low resistance to the pressure and stresses that may occur during installation and possible “peeling” in situations where the pipe is notoriously bent.

TECE Multilayer

As for our private customers, we recommend the TECE multilayer pipe, a brand of great quality and experience in the sector that offers a multilayer pipe that is ideal for the installation of heating and drinking water systems.

The TECE multilayer pipe consists of exactly the following layers (from the inside out):

  • Inner pipe (PE-RT or PE-Xc)
  • Adhesion layer
  • Aluminum layer
  • PE-RT outer protective layer

Advantages of TECE Multilayer

Now let’s see why this pipe is so effective:

  • Its expansion is linear, just like in metal pipes.
  • In the same way as Multipex, the aluminum layer that contains this pipe is also butt-welded, so its resistance is very high.
  • Diffusion tight.
  • It is widely used for installations intended for visible areas, since its outer layer is white and does not damage the aesthetics of the space in question.

Besides, this multilayer tube has a guarantee of manufacturing and quality control in Germany, where they examine through different very complex methods continuously analyze all their products to maintain its high quality and above all ensure the customer a very safe, stable and highly durable connection.
